There will be two rounds of Debates. Each Debate will be carried out by a PRO-team and a CON-team, consisting of four members.

  1. European Identity – Myth or Reality?

The goal of the debate is to determine whether there is such a phenomenon as the European Identity. The European Identity is an undeniable reality that has been evolving in the long-term historical process and is revealed in common social, cultural, economic and political values, a characteristic which comes with the territory, ancestry and nationality, or the European Identity is just a political project created in the middle of XX century and being maintained only by politicians’ efforts. The participants will deliver pros and cons on the question: is there such a thing as the European Identity?

  1. Is Multiculturalism a Threat for the European Identity?

The goal of the debate is to assess the role of multiculturalism in the European Identity formation. On the one hand, the motto of the EU is “United in Diversity”, which signifies how Europeans have come together to work for peace and prosperity, while at the same time being enriched by the continent's many different cultures, traditions and languages. On the other hand, growing numbers of immigrants to the EU reveal the problems of integration of people of non-European origin, growth of cultural differences, tension and opposition of the hosting nations.
