Celebration of Bologna Process XX Anniversary

On June 24-25, 2019 the City and the University of Bologna in cooperation with Magna Charta Observatory, the European University Association and the European Students’ Union organized the Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Bologna Declaration.

The higher reaches of academic life, officials from government and noncommercial organizations, more than 200 rectors of Universities world-wide and Heads of world-important associations were invited to the event, as well as Unecon Vice rector on Research and Science Elena Gorbashko

Jubilation followed by an academic conference to identify results obtained while Bologne process performance and to the design the agenda in the years to come. Academicians, experts and students came together to form a common vision on the Higher Education in European Region. The proceedings of this meeting will become an input for the 2020 EHEA (European Higher Education Area) Ministerial Meeting in Rome on June 23-25 2020.

A welcome speech at the Opening Ceremony gave following leaders:

Deputy Director-General for Education, UNESCO, - Stefania Giannini;
Director of DG EAC: Youth, Education and Erasmus+ - Sophia Eriksson Waterschoot;
President of European University Association - Michael Murphy;
Council of Europe, Head of Education Department - Sjur Bergan;
Romania, BFUG Co-chair - Cristina Ghiţulică;
President of ESU – European Students’ Union - Adam Gajek;
Italian Minister of Education, Universities and Research - Marco Bussetti.

In the framework of conference the organizers have identified five clusters for parallel sessions

  • Academic and related civic values in changing societies.
  • Student-centred Learning
  • Providing Leadership for Sustainable Development, the Role of Higher Education.
  • The Social Dimensions of Higher Education.
  •  Careers and Skills for the Labour Market of the future.

Unecon Vice rector on Research and Science Elena Gorbashko took part at round table dedicated to the Social Dimensions of Higher Education, where participants discussed a role of University from different points of view: universities input in economic growth through creation of high-skilled human resources, humanitarian and social aspects of higher education and a role of universities in sustainable development, social welfare and involvement.

On the Closing ceremony Professor Fabio Roversi Monaco, former Rector of the University of Bologna, handed over a copy of the Bologna Declaration to Robert Napier, President-elect of the European Students’ Union, to symbolically express the pivotal role of students in the further development of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) in the years to come.
