Presses of St. Petersburg universities begin to cooperate with the largest Vietnamese publishing house
On March 24, 2023 St. Petersburg State University of Economics hosted an online conference of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg, heads of the international cooperation departments, presses of UNECON, SPbU, Herzen University and ETU “LETI”, and Truth (“Su That”) National Political Publishing House of Vietnam.
Vyacheslav Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for external relations of St. Petersburg, thanked Truth (“Su That”) Publishing House in his speech for their long-term cooperation: “I express my sincere gratitude to the management of Truth Publishing House for translating three books into Russian at the request of the Committee. I would like to particularly recognise the book of Ho Chi Minh’s personal secretary Vu Ky “How Ho Chi Minh wrote his testament”, which Vo Van Thuong, member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam, head of its Central Committee’s propaganda department, newly elected president of Vietnam, personally presented at the Committee conference “Spiritual heritage of Ho Chi Minh. 50 years later” at Smolny in 2019. As the Permanent Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat, Vo Van Thuong wrote an annotation for the Russian translation of the book “Activities of Nguyen Ai Quoc in the Soviet Union (1923-1938)” in 2021“.
Vyacheslav Kalganov also congratulated the young employees of Truth Publishing House on the upcoming 92nd anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
Dmitry Vasilenko, UNECON Vice-Rector on International Relations, read out a welcoming address on behalf of Rector Igor Maksimtsev, emphasizing that cooperation in publishing translated books is especially important for the rapprochement and understanding of Russian and Vietnamese cultures.
Nguyen Hoai Anh, Deputy Director, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Truth Publishing House, suggested various areas of work for St. Petersburg publishers:
- annually exchanging lists of books to be published to select the most appropriate for publishing in in Vietnam and vice versa;
- organizing direct working visits to exchange publishing experience;
- organizing joint scientific conferences and seminars on subjects of mutual interest (e.g., conferences on digital book publishing, e-commerce buying or selling books), etc.
“We have been working successfully with the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg for several years now, and over this period we have managed to translate and publish a number of books and participated in the St. Petersburg International Book Salon twice. We propose signing a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the Truth Publishing House and the Committee for External Relations in the near future,” Nguyen Hoai Anh emphasized.
The administration of UNECON, SPbU, Herzen University and LETI gave presentations on the work of the universities’ presses to their Vietnamese colleagues.
In conclusion of the meeting the parties agreed to conduct a working conference on May 17, 2023, as part of the Vietnam Days in St. Petersburg.
