Anually, since 2015, UNECON has been holding Youth Day in the framework of St. Petersburg International Gas Forum in cooperation with International Business Congress (IBC) and PJSC Gazprom. The event is meant to be a platform for dialogue on the future of energy between industry leaders and young generation.
In 2023, more than 200 Master’s and PhD students from different universities and countries applied for participation in the Youth Day. At the first stage, applicants had to solve an energy quiz to show their knowledge in energy sphere. Those, who passed the quiz, were accepted for participation in the Virtual Academy.
The Virtual Academy took place on 15 July – 31 August 2023 under the title “New Energy World” and united 114 participants from different countries (Russia, Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, China, CIS countries) representing over 30 universities. Experts from PJSC Gazprom, Comita Digital Technologies LLC, National Energy Council of Indonesia, Technical Academy of Rosatom, etc. delivered interactive lectures to enhance students’ competencies and skills. The following topics were covered during online webinars: energy of the future in the world economy in 20-year perspective, strategic orientation of energy companies, energy companies’ contribution to sustainable development, energy companies’ cyber horizons, energy companies as designers of the future, nuclear energy in energy balance, career building in energy sector.
In addition, students had to solve several individual tasks: comparative analysis of resources for energy generation and essay on basic principles of global energy development for the future in 20 years. On results of the Virtual Academy and assignments completed, 32 students with the highest marks have got invitation to the main events and activities of the Youth Day of 12th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum which will be held on 31 October – 3 November 2023.
