UNECON Strengthens Russian–Bulgarian Cooperation

From April 13 to 17, Saint Petersburg State University of Economics hosted a series of lectures on Chinese history delivered by Associate Professor Yana Shishkova of Sofia University. The course, attended by students of groups L-24 and L-23, was based on the author’s 2025 monograph “Chinese Civilization”. A copy of the book was donated by the lecturer to UNECON’s Chinese Library.

The lecture series offered a comprehensive overview of China’s historical and cultural development, spanning from the establishment of imperial rule under Qin Shi Huang to key aspects of modern political life shaped by leaders such as Mao Zedong and Xi Jinping. Students explored key historical figures and phenomena, including the reforms of Shang Yang, the military thought of Zhuge Liang, and the evolution of secret societies from ancient times to their contemporary forms.

Participants praised the engaging and accessible format of the lectures, emphasizing the lecturer’s clear explanations, effective use of examples, and interactive approach. According to student feedback, the sessions were both informative and dynamic, fostering active discussion and deeper understanding of the subject.

During her visit, Yana Shishkova also contributed to the International Research and Practice Conference “Current Issues in the Theory and Practice of Teaching Chinese: Cooperation Between Higher and Secondary Education”, where she delivered a plenary report titled “Integrating Cultural Components into Chinese Language Teaching: A Systemic Analysis of Five Aspects.”
