The main goal of the project is to foster awareness about modern European identity formation in various EU countries against the backdrop of European integration processes. The formation of modern European identity in the context of integration processes in the EU in various aspects, including social and cultural values, will be studied. The project aims at strengthening the understanding of the importance of intercultural and interreligious dialogue in the context of European integration. Within the framework of the project round tables, seminars and final conference will be organized. SPbSUE has finished implementation of Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Project
“Modern European identity formation in the framework of the EU integration: social and cultural dimensions”

According to the results of the verification of the Final Report of project implementation by the European Commission, IAC Project “Modern European identity formation in the framework of the EU integration: social and cultural dimensions” was approved and successfully finished.
The Project was dedicated to the transformations of modern European identity in the context of the EU integration processes as well as improvement of understanding of importance of intercultural and interreligious dialogues in the context of European integration.
The following topics were addressed during Project events: theory of identity studies; Europeans’ attitude to European identity; interdependence of regional, national, European identity; cultural, historical, religious, political dimensions of identity formation in the EU; formation of civil society in the context of EU integration processes; the impact of migration processes on European identity; main trends and possible ways of European identity development.
About 400 participants attended Project roundtables and conferences, including 33 speakers from Europe and Russia, teachers from 18 SPb HEIs and 9 Russian HEIs, over 100 Russian and 8 Italian students; members of European Association of International Studies (Italy), representatives of local authorities, civil society and cultural centres.
The most significant event of the project was international conference “European and Russian Identities: Social and Cultural Aspects”, organized on May 11-12, 2018 with the support of the European Association of International Studies (AESI). More than 150 participants attended the event which was dedicated to urgent problems of the formation of European identity in the context of globalization, the role of young people in development of sustainable cooperation between Russia and Europe, Russian and European identities in the context of European identity. Russian and Italian students took an active part in the conference.
